The Styx

Nephrea passed through the exit from the valley through another cave. This one was the same height as Mangornia, with the dirt walls slowly narrowing around her. She ascended a path of stony steps, but then the trail descended gently. The artificial sky of Mangornia faded and was replaced by darkness. Fortunately, a faint light emanated from white leaves along the ceiling of the shallow caves. The path became narrow, but still large enough to afford a small orchard.

The white light from the leaves turned darker. Nighttime? She climbed a tree near the cave wall and lay down along a canopy of branches. Sleeping in the branches above would hide her in case of the return of Eruboi. She closed her eyes and slept restlessly.
